「第七十五回 京都秋の陳列会」のお知らせ
Originally opened in 1843, GION SAITO is a specialty kimono shop which hangs its shopfront curtain on Shinmonzen Dori Street in the Higashiyama Ward of Kyoto, amidst the old art and antique shops there. With its closeness to the Gionmachi area and location on Shinmonzen Dori Street, which was and is the domain of Kyomai dance master Yachiyo Inoue, it has served the kimono needs of local customers residing in places like the hanamachi geisha towns from days of old.
Since it first opened, GION SAITO has continued its devotion to inhouse production of original kimono and obi belts together with its own team of skilled artisans. Today, it is loved by droves of customers from all over the country. Its tradition crafting original products through both avenues of dyeing and weaving is a history GION SAITO has been proud to protect, with help from the skill of the artisans who make that tradition possible.
The storefront is arranged according to traditional style and has a small entrance, so it cannot serve a large influx of customers all at once. It does not have a single product display case, and there is a limit to the number of fabrics customers can view. We put our hearts and souls into communicating with customers to discover the exact product they need, and then providing that product.
The setup may exude a bit of an intimidating ambiance, but we view this dedication we have prided ourselves on for many years as our unique brand of hospitality in our stance of deep respect for the customer and the kimono and obi belts we recommend to the customer.
Enjoy the thrill of clothing yourself in tradition and history, today.
We look forward to meeting you in our role of providing kimono wear that brightens the wearer all the way to their hearts.
As a kimono shop that has hung its noren (traditional shop curtain) in the antique district of Shinmonzen Street in Higashiyama, Kyoto, the story of “Gion Saito,” which has now reached its 180th year since its founding.
