CONCEPT

Over a long span of time, numerous antique kogire fabrics have been passed down to the present as examples in pursuits of luxurious beauty unique to their various eras. These small pieces of historic fabric are like crystals of condensed beauty infused with traditional techniques and methods. Studying these pieces of fabric together with artisans in our quest to produce traditional products is somewhat like unravelling the secrets of history and culture.

Old techniques are the pinnacle of the creative endeavor, and are valuable cultural assets.
At the foundation of the GION SAITO devotion to maintaining traditional practices is our mission to recreate beauty based on history.

We take as our mission the effort to faithfully recreate traditional kimono wear in not only the pattern and color tone, but also every other aspect from materials to technique, and to even surpass the high standard of technique in our predecessors. Because we consult with specialist artisans for each of the numerous production processes necessary to manifest ideas into a finished product, from fabric matching to fabric color, pattern design, yuzen dyeing, shishu embroidery, and kinsai gold decoration, projects can take some time to complete. This is, of course, however, a simple necessity on our quest to imbue each step with the apex of quality produced by human hands.

SAITO ORIMONO Co.,Ltd.

Taking a different approach to product creation than GION SAITO, SAITO ORIMONO specializes in weaving.
From a nature-nestled studio situated in the Nishigamo area of Kyoto, our gathering of highly skilled artisans and young artisans carrying on their technique traditions put their hearts and souls into crafting a diverse array of obi belts including karaori-weave fabrics known for their full-bodied weft, recreations of antique kogire fabrics, and stylish modern fabrics.

Nishijin-ori fabric techniques passed down in an unbroken line and homages to antique kogire fabrics. And new products born emerging from that. Our handwork brings you the individual stories of one-of-a-kind fabrics.
