Weaving

QUALITY

Woven fabrics are crafted daily through handloom mastery by both the young generation of weavers and veteran weavers who have inherited traditional techniques passed down in Nishijin from artisan to artisan.

As if in dialogue with the loom, the weaver senses the feel of the machine during production, and adjusts the process by hand as needed. Even for the same pattern, if the weaver is different, the hand work differs and traces of that can be detected in the fabric. Each finished fabric has that unique, one-of-a-kind object feeling only possible through hand weaving.

In addition to traditional techniques of the past like wet nurenuki weaving and hikibaku foil interweaving, we have also delved into our own creativity and innovation to develop new techniques unique to us. We craft a wide variety of obi belts for different situations and seasons, including those made from karaori-weave fabrics, which are attractive for their vibrant enuki figure weft, pieces that recreate antique kogire fabrics, and others that experiment with new materials.
